As I reminded my readers once before, I have a comment policy. Please read it again. I am blacklisting Kiran, who commented incessantly on the previous post, and created, or attempted to create religious animosity. I repeat, if I find your comment insulting, or spreading racial, religious, ethnic or caste hatred, I will NOT hesitate to delete it. At the risk of being labelled as Barkha Dutt II, (as she did) I will still go ahead and do what I threatened. I am leaving the comments by Kiran on the previous post intact, because I want my readers to know why I took such a decision.

Well done Amrutha. These exact comments were posted on my blog too, (copy-pasted) and I am going to link my reply to these comments to your post.
This I think is some kind of propaganda going on, or else why would they go on posting the same comment everywhere.
And of course I will also delete (I do even now) any such comments in future – but we should also add a message to such people the way you have done.

I wouldn’t care if people called me a bitch. It’s their personal opinion. But, branding entire communities foreign and criminals is beyond tolerance. We can’t shut up all the time and let such people hog our comment space can we?

If we keep quiet,our silence will be interpreted as acceptance..This happened to muslim community-in religious aspect..They didn’t care for intial fundamentalist moves,now they are suffering themselves.taking others along..It would have made lot of difference if they has spoke and act earler,now it will take 1327571 times more effort to reverse the damage..Don’t let it happen again..

My first time commenting here but I read your blog. That Kiran really seemed like a fanatic who was brainwashed by the hindu fundamentalists. There is no difference between them and the young muslim men who are lured into terrorist cells. Good job.

First about the post āIntimidation by NDTVā. You ask: āWould they tender an unconditional apology to the Talwars for slandering them after the murder of their 14-year old daughter? Would they retract all the speculations they made on national television of the sordid details of Dr. Rajesh Talwarās adulterous relationship with his colleague? Would they offer to bring back the time the family lost in mourning their daughter?ā The answer, as everyone knows, is āNOā. Media personnel have just become a pack of hounds vying and dying for a piece of meat a.k.a ānewsā. We saw some of the high profile media personalities walking the āterror rampā during Mumbai terrorist attack and thus providing vital information to the terrorists. The profession, which was once considered noble, has become so degenerated. The legends like Pothan Joseph, Chalapathi Rao, C.P. Ramachandran, Frank Moraes and the likes who elevated journalism to glorious heights must be turning in their graves. I think itās high time some one told the media that they donāt have any special rights other than the common man. Article 19 (1) A of the constitution gives us the right to āfreedom of speechā and itās not a monopoly of the media. If only the media men are sensitive enough to understand how it would be like when a mike shoved on their face during the time of a personal tragedy.
About the Mangalore incident: Iāve been working in Mangalore since March 2008. Itās not a claim to assert that I know Mangalore better. I find the city comfortable. Itās not that crowded as of now and people are quite friendly. But underneath this tranquil layer thereās yet another Mangalore. Thereās kinda gehettoisation, the communal divide often come to the fore, pretty easily.
Ever since the BJP government came to power, the city reported sporadic incidents of communal violence. It started with the attack on churches and the āpub attackā is just the latest in this regard. Now, an English Professor in University College, Shri. Somayaji, is being harassed by the student organization of BJP for speaking against the attack and Ram Sena. It all arises out of a reluctance to admit that religious belief is personal. I donāt think that these self custodians of āBharatiya Sanskritiā or the so called āHindutwa way of livingā know anything about āHinduismā or the vastness of it. We had tolerated āCharvakasā (Materialists), atheists and encouraged discourses under the vast fold of āHinduismā, now what the āSaviours of Hindu Cultureā is up to is bringing a bad repute to a civilization that has showed the light of knowledge to the world. āStraitjacketingā is not a solution. The attack on women is condemnable whoever did it or whatever their justifications are.
Let me recount an incident happened a couple of weeks back at work:
My Colleague: Do you eat chicken?
Me: Yeah
MC: Mutton?
Me: Yeah
MC: Beef?
Me: Yeahā¦
MC: What!!! You eat beef?
Me: Yes I do
MC: How can you man, such an innocent animal like cowā¦
Me: If cow is innocent even a goat is or a cock isā¦
At this juncture another colleague who was so engrossed in work turned and told colleague number 1 āask him whether heās a Hindu or notā¦ā though initially I was really angry, later it made me laugh thinking about the futility of it all. I donāt understand this very concept of going ga ga over oneās religion or belittling someone elseās. Itās so stupid.
